OUR PROJECTS
We develop inner-city Wichita!
POWER CDC has a proven
track record of neighborhood and community building:
- NEW HOMES:
Over the past 8 years, POWER CDC has
constructed 90 new homes for low-to moderate-income families in
central-northeast Wichita -- including 13 homes in the McAdams
neighborhood. MORE...
- SAVE-A-LOT GROCERY:
We have recently developed a new
neighborhood--serving grocery store at the intersection of
13th & Grove.
- DUNBAR THEATER:
To enhance the quality of life, and rejuvenate a
legendary commercial district, POWER CDC is beginning the
renovation of the
Historic
Dunbar Theater located at 9th & Cleveland, in the
Wichita's McAdams neighborhood.
- COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP:
To enhance opportunity in the POWER CDC
neighborhood, Friends University has begun an endowed scholarship
which will provide half of the tuition, books and on-campus
residence for an outstanding student in need, from
central-northeast Wichita.
This "Wichita Alumni Advisory Board Endowed Scholarship
Honoring James Arbertha," is named for POWER CDC's founding
director, in honor of his work with -- and the achievements of --
POWER CDC.
For more information (if your web browser has "Flash"), view this
video, that tells the story of POWER CDC, and Mr. Arbertha's
vision, and the concept of the new scholarship.
Through physical improvements to human
accommodations, and new opportunity for educational growth -- in
this carefully targeted, historically challenged community --
POWER CDC is breaking the old self-reinforcing cycle of
failure, and replacing it with...
HOPE, OPPORTUNITY & PROGRESS ...finally reversing the
direction of change, and finally raising the quality
of life in central-northeast Wichita.
